Nissan Leaf Coming Soon

8th September

I took the LEAF to the Pilton Flower Show on Saturday but unfortunately forgot to charge it ( My wife usually takes control of charging it but she was away!! ) due to this I was unable to drive to the Pilton Party! However, I did go to Bristol Airport to collect my wife and her mum who had been on a trip to Scotland, this is definately one of the longer journeys that I have made in the LEAF.

17th August

I have taken ' Ecolight ' around the estate in the Nissan LEAF. I have asked if they can advise of ways to reduce the amount of diesel used in the portable lights.

1st August

I'll be taking the LEAF to Castle Cary train station this weekend where i'm collecting the ' Bootleg Beatles '

I'll then take them to Glastonbury Abbey Musical Extravaganza, where they will be joining a host of other bands including Status Quo and Catherine Jenkins.

On Saturday I'll be driving the LEAF to Bridgewater where I will be opening the local Oxfam shop.

27th July

The LEAF is now fondly known as the ' Rolls-Royce ' to my friends in the office.

This is due to a David Ogilvy quote, ' At 60 miles an hour the loudest noise in a Rolls Royce comes from the electric clock! '

We have been travelling to Sherborne and Yeovil in the LEAF this week, we really feel like we are getting to know the car and would love to visit Burton Bradstock or West Bay on the South Coast.

20th July

We have always had the British Gas POD point located on the farm but now we have had another point installed at our house too, its a convenient and safe way to charge the LEAF plus, it allows us to recharge a third faster than using a normal mains supply socket. It makes a huge difference.

Thankfully, my wife has taken responsibility of ensuring the LEAF is charged before we set off on a journey!!

11th July

My trips are becoming more and more planned due to the range of the LEAF. I do use the car everyday for leisure and shopping trips and enjoy the experience of driving the electric car very much. Last week I visited the wetland nature reserve on the Somerset levels, a really lovely day!

13th June

I visited BBC Taunton this week and the range was absolutely fine. I spent the weekend in Taunton at my daughter Emily's, celebrating the birth of my 16th grandchild and Emilys first child, George. Upon returning home I noticed I had 3 miles left to spare!!

Sometimes the LEAF range does concern me, I had planned a visit to Gloucestershire however I then remembered the range and the lack of charging facilities and decided not too make the journey. Journeys in the Nissan LEAF do require a little more planning and thought as opposed to driving a fuel car and taking fuel stations for granted!

6th June

I have been to the Bath and West and a trip that I enjoy to Burham on sea.

I am looking forward to the time when I can go on longer trips to Cornwall but unfortunately it is not within the range and no charging points at the moment!

31th May

I accompanied British Waterways to Maunsell Rock at the Bridgewater and Taunton Canal. I happily drove the LEAF there and returned leading a convoy of British Waterways personnel and press reporters back to Worthy Farm. British Waterways have very kindly donated the lock gates which are being used to build ‘Campo Pequeno’ - A towering medieval amphitheatre, set amidst a dazzling Latino landscape at the Glastonbury Festival.

26th May

We now realise that we need to live the ‘good’ life, and that we can’t take energy with us. We are learning to live with the LEAF and having to make adjustments to the new reality.

19th May

The New LEAF is really growing on me. I have been driving over the Somerset levels to Bath and Taunton and I am enjoying the silence!

27th April

The LEAF is so quiet and beautifully smooth, both my wife and I are really enjoying driving such a state of the art car, It's so easy to charge the car from the barn throughout the day and enjoy our visits to Bath and Taunton throughout the week!

the island of Jersey

This may come as a bit of a shock, but taxis on Jersey's roads could soon be going electric.

After the States of Jersey gave a green light for an electric vehicle to be licensed as a taxi, local cab company Luxicabs is looking to introduce the first fully electric cars to their fleet.

Keen to cut escalating fuel bills and reduce its carbon emissions further, Luxicabs approached Nissan with a view to trialling the LEAF, one of the manufacturer’s fuel efficient vehicles.

Luxicabs say that new models could be more practical for them to use as the cars are bigger and would go further on a single charge. Makers say that the range on a full charge would be 109 miles at 30-40mph, with charging times varying between 12 hours for a full charge and 30 minutes for a fast charge.

John Ross from Luxicabs said: "As a taxi company we have significant monthly fuel bills which continue to rise. We investigated electric vehicles and the LEAF stood out but we wanted to make sure the LEAF was suitable as a taxi.

"We certainly feel it is and I'm delighted the DVS have approved it in principle. We have already invested over £400,000 in the Toyota Prius Hybrid. This new generation of electric cars is even more environmentally sound so the LEAF ticks all the boxes from an environmental point of view and a business one. Jersey Electricity could fit our depot with the necessary charging equipment for us to take advantage of cheap rate electricity and FJ Chalke would provide the service back-up until it becomes available here."

Many customers are more interested in how much it costs. And with a starting price of £26,000 the cars themselves do not come cheap.

However, Luxicabs will not say whether the new cabs will mean lower fares for customers.

Shane Rendall and Lloyd Cressey took a trip to Jersey to meet LuxiCabs, a taxi company based in St Helier. Always keen to be innovators the company wanted to see if the LEAF would make a suitable replacement for their fleet of Toyota Prius.

Luxicabs were the first to introduce the Toyota Prius to the island and have been running 13 of the cars ever since. Looking to go even more eco-friendly the next step was to go full electric, but with the market mainly consisting of very small, 2/4 seat, impractical city cars there was nothing suitable, until they discovered the Nissan LEAF.

Over a couple of months Shane had developed a relationship with John Ross, a driver for LuxiCabs. John was incredibly keen to showcase the LEAF on the island, so much so that he got the local newspaper involved, which then led to a feature on BBC News, local radio and ITV Channel Islands plus an order for the car!

FJ Chalke then met with Jersey Electricity Company who have had an interest in electric cars for some time, they explained how they had seen the car at the Paris motorshow but struggled to source the vehicle on the island. After hearing that FJ Chalke were visiting they requested a meeting, and instantly impressed with the vehicle, placed an order!

Hestercombe Gardens - 16th November

FJ Chalke have recently showcased the LEAF at Hestercombe Gardens. The gardens have invested in a charging point for the car park and are keen to promote eco-friendly motoring!

Nissan LEAF is the world's first affordable 100% electric car and has been voted Autocar's Car of the Year 2011. An exciting and practical family car with no oil, no petrol tank, no exhaust, Nissan LEAF is a real glimpse into the future.

The Nissan LEAF may not have any emissions, but what it does have is everything you’ve come to expect in a driving experience. Its distinctive aerodynamically designed shape reduces wind noise whilst allowing LEAF to reach upto 90mph. The Nissan LEAF is so perfectly quiet and so easy to drive, with enhanced agility through its low centre of gravity. There’s plenty of room for 5 adults, plus a spacious boot. And the inviting interior features innovative yet user-friendly technology like a distinctive palm shifter and combimeter that tells you exactly how many miles you have left. You can even program navigation, charging and interior temperature remotely from your iphone or computer.

Autonomy and Charging

Nissan LEAF’s new laminated lithium-ion batteries give you twice the capacity and 1.5 times the power of conventional lithium-ion batteries. That means you get instant torque from a standing start, with enough power to carry 5 people for about 100 miles on a single full charge. Energy is fed back to the battery every time the driver breaks, Plus, the batteries can be 80% recharged in under 30 minutes at various Rapid Charge stations. So, it doesn’t take much to keep Nissan LEAF charged up and autonomous for miles.

Engine & Transmission
  • Electric Motor high-response synchronous AC motor
  • Maximum motor power - 80kW / 109PS
  • Torque – 280Nm
  • Transmission – single reduction gear( automatic )

Nissan LEAF’s also come with a 5 year / 60000 mile component warranty.
